It’s that time of year – May is Bike Month – While very different from our community celebrations in years past, there’s real relevance and plenty of ways to commemorate our special month. Yeah, we’re missing annual Bike to School Day, Bike to Work Day, and other bike happy community events – but we’re all out on bikes – more than ever – so let’s recognize and heighten that bike happiness.
Share Your Stories.
Take this important survey (link coming soon) – tell us what you’re seeing (more people biking) and doing (riding more often) so we can report in to our towns, cities, and states and elevate the importance of investing in better biking.
You don’t want to miss “Why I Ride” – This wonderful collection of Rhode Island bicyclist stories is curated by Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition (RIBike) and is part of their Bike Month activities. Check back frequently – and participate with your personal story!
Take a Tour
Head to our Maps & Rides Page for bike routes of all types. There’s still time for a DIY Daffodil Tour – though the daffies are fading as our beautiful Cherry Blossoms take over. Discover RI Bike’s no-contact bike tours HERE along with lots of other Bike Month ideas. Do you have a ride you love – send us the map and photos of what to look out for and we’ll share it!
Fix it Yourself
Don’t let squeaky brakes or gnarly chain gunk keep you home. You can totally DIY – and it feels so good. Now that you have a little extra time, head to our Resources Page for some fine instructional videos – and never let a flat tire end your ride again.
Add Biking to Your Home Schooling Plan
Celebrate Bike Month with some fun family activities. Check out the printable coloring books and instructional videos under our Ideas for Kids section.
Be Covid19 Responsible on Your Bike
Please ride responsibly in this time, – helmets, masks and safe distances. Remember before you start pedaling to check for information on RI state information on outdoor spaces.
Advocate & Share
Everyone who’s riding a bike is advocating for safer streets and bike infrastructure. That’s you – thanks for making a statement for more and better biking! Get your family and friends to join you – and enjoy all the benefits to health, happiness and environment. Please pass on this link so they can get some new ideas, too.
