Certified Instructor Training: a few spaces left

March 4, 2012

FREE LCI TRAINING ($350 VALUE): Bike Newport is sponsoring LAB bicycle educator training for 15 Newport cyclists/advocates.  This intensive comprehensive class is taught by the League of American Bicyclists and results in nationally-recognized LCI (League Certified Instructor) certification to teach bicycle skills and safety classes.  http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/education/seminars.php

Our goal is to have an advocate/instructor base with the expertise to serve as knowledgeable spokespeople as we work to improve road sharing in Newport.  LCIs can also assist with school/community events and youth programs. All classes will take place in Newport and will be taught by LAB trainers.

Note:  most people travel to other states, if not the west coast for this training.  Having it offered here in Newport is a fabulous opportunity.  Bike Newport’s goal in sponsoring this class is to have more of our local cycling advocates thoroughly trained as road sharing experts and willing to share that expertise with our community as we move forward on encouraging and improving cycling in Newport.

How to apply:  You must commit to all classes to participate. Participation is at the discretion of the Bike Newport Board and will be  based on the availability of a spot, the order of interest expressed, and involvement in community programs. Please reply immediately, and no later than March 11, with a statement of interest to info@bikenewport.me.  The final class roster will be determined by March 17.

Classes:

Required prerequisite Traffic 101 class:  Saturday, March 24 8am to 5pm

LCI training:

Friday, March 30 5-9pm

Saturday, March 31 8am-8pm

Sunday, April 1 8am-5pm

Participants must attend all sessions:  March 24, 30, 31 and April 1.

Cost:  Bike Newport is covering the cost of the classes. Participants will only be responsible for a $10 materials fee for the prerequisite class and the cost of becoming a member of the League of American Bicyclists ($40 individual) https://members.bikeleague.org/members_online/members/newmember.asp

THERE ARE ONLY A FEW REMAINING SLOTS OPEN – PLEASE NOTIFY BIKE NEWPORT IMMEDIATELY, and no later than March 11,  by submitting a statement of interest to:  info@bikenewport.org.
