Hey Rhody Features Allyson McCalla

We checked in with Bike Newport’s Director of Community Relations and Administration, Allyson McCalla, recently featured in HeyRhody Magazine. We’re stoked that Hey Rhody is focusing on “Black Owned Businesses in Rhode Island” -– and that the Newport chapter of Black Girls Do Bike started by our shero, Allyson, is one of the inspiring featured stories!

Below is an excerpt from the featured story, about Allyson’s inspiration for starting the Newport Chapter of Black Girls Do Bike:

“Starting a Newport chapter of Black Girls Do Bike (BGDB) was just a thought I had after attending a presentation at the League of American Bicyclists’ 2019 National Bike Summit. I brought this thought to fruition, and I’m excited to share that our chapter in Newport is growing! I’ve met some inspiring women, and it’s nice to witness the relationships between one another grow. We have some exciting plans in store for 2022.

To learn more about the Newport Chapter of BGDB, or to find ways to engage with us, please feel free to reach out to me: Allyson McCalla, Director of Community Relations and Administration: (774) 234-8868 or allyson@bikenewportri.org.
