How to Ride Your Bike to the USGA Senior Open

June 12, 2024

Excitement is building as the 2024 U.S. Senior Open is coming to Newport Country Club – Championship rounds will be held from Thursday, June 27 through Sunday, June 30th.

Riding your bike to the USGA Senior Open is a great idea! Please note there is only one place you can park your bikes and walk in – and that is from Brenton Point. Read on!

Access to the event area will be strictly managed. The guidelines and restrictions set for car, bike, and walking access are very firm. Here are some notes we hope will be helpful:

  • The ONLY way to arrive directly to the main entrance is by SHUTTLE. You will not be allowed to bike or walk into the Newport Country Club on Harrison Avenue.
  • Most people arriving by car will park at the Newport Grand or Gaudet Middle School lots and will be shuttled to the main entrance.
  • VIPs, Staff, and SOME volunteers with specific pre-arranged parking will have credentials to park at Fort Adams and Brenton Point. If you are one of these people and would rather ride to those locations, there will be bike racks at these lots. Shuttles from Fort Adams will then take you to the main entrance gate – which can only be accessed by shuttle.
  • BICYCLE PARKING for everyone is located at Brenton Point. You’ll find the racks at the northeast corner of the lawn (see diagram). From here, you will enter the event immediately adjacent to the 14th Hole. This location is about a 1-mile walk inside the event grounds to the Newport Country Club Clubhouse (main entrance and merchandise).
  • There will be signs along the way on Harrison, Ridge, and Ocean Avenues directing you to the bicycle parking at Brenton Point.
  • Reminder – there will be no bicycle or pedestrian access onto Harrison Avenue from either end. You must bike or walk to Brenton Point and enter through that security gate, which will be well marked.

You’ll find lots of good information, including about parking, at the EVENT FAQ page  and from Discover Newport.

Have a great time at the USGA Senior Open!
