The Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll

September 3, 2026

Saturday, September 19th, 9:00am – Noon

Grab your helmets, walking shoes, and sense of adventure — the Sakonnet Coastal Bike + Stroll is back on Saturday, September 19th, from 9 am to 12 pm.

Register Here!

Led by the Island Park Coastal Community, in partnership with Bike Newport, this delightful community event invites everyone to enjoy the scenic Sakonnet shoreline at a slow fun pace — free from traffic and full of good, family-friendly vibes.

Whether you’re cruising along the waterfront, strolling with neighbors, or just soaking in the salty air, this morning celebration is all about community connection, coastal beauty, and safe healthy public spaces.

What to Expect:

  • A car-free “open road” area with stunning coastal views (same route you love from previous years!)
  • Plenty of room to bike, walk, and chat with friends new and old
  • Smiles, sunshine, and maybe even a few surprise moments along the way
  • Volunteers, we need you too! Arrive at 8:00 am to help keep things running smoothly (roads close at 8:30 am, and the police detail runs until 12:30 pm).
  • The road will reopen to vehicles at NOON. While people on bikes may remain on the road as usual, pedestrians and children on bikes must exit the road before that time.
  • Helmets are encouraged for all participants and are required up to age 15.

Let’s celebrate Island Park’s coastal beauty and vibrant community spirit – and make this year’s Bike + Stroll the best one yet.

Interested in volunteering for the event? We are still looking for folks to get involved! Click the link below so sign up.

The “open road” area includes Park Ave from just after (east of) Mason Ave, Point Road, Hummock Point Road, and Hummocks Ave through (and including) the railroad overpass at Anthony Rd (at the entrance to Common Fence Point), and also including the separated bike lane crossing the Sakonnet River Bridge.

The Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll is made possible with the help volunteers who help keep everything safe and running smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering to support this event, please e-mail John Vit at johnvit53@gmail.com.
