In this section:
Year-round requests, recommendations and support for more, better and safer bicycling. Bike Newport events, proposals, research and awareness-building work to gain the support of the public, funders and our community leaders and elected representatives.
While we work to make our roads more hospitable to cyclists, we also strive to educate cyclists and motorists alike how to safely share the road. From our schools to community programs to places of employment, we offer classes in bicycle skills, safety and maintenance.
Asking for improvement isn’t enough; we need to walk the talk! We raise funds to train Smart Cycling instructors, to provide classes to residents and students across Aquidneck Island, to purchase and distribute safety equipment, to create off-road bike paths for our kids, to get more people of all ages on bicycles in the best interest of health, environment, economy, preservation and overall quality-of-life.
Maps (print and online) of recommended routes, timely media relations, vital safety information, cycling event calendars, published rules of the road, heightened awareness of cycling issues, and optimized information on this web site – all of our efforts are an effort to reach everyone who can contribute to a robust and safe cycling culture in Newport.
Bike rides, bike parades, bike films, bike fashion, bike FUN – we are THERE! People are happier on a bicycle than in a car, and we are determined to get more people on bikes – discovering the fun way to experience Newport. For our kids, tourists and residents – it’s better on a bike!
