Every year, Bike Newport distributes lovingly-restored bikes to the city’s school children. The fun starts in September when community volunteers begin work on bikes that are donated year round. One by one, they are repaired, restored, cleaned and shined on their way to the Annual Holiday Bike Giveaway in December – where they are matched with their happy new owners!
Up until 2019, the event took place inside of Pell Elementary School – but COVID forced us outdoors in 2020 and we discovered a wonderful new experience! With hot cocoa flowing and kids abounding, we can match that many more kids to their new wheels, and they can set off right away to play on our new pump track.
