When the League of American Bicyclists announced the 2024 Bicycle Friendly Businesses this week, we were happy to see two Newport nonprofits at the top of the list – Bike Newport with Platinum status, and our friends at FabNewport with Silver. This year, the League recognized 56 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses.
The photos above show the results of the commitment to encouragement at the heart of bicycle-friendly efforts: 1600 bicyclists in one day to the 2024 Folk Festival, the smiles of kids after a great bike adventure, and the recognition of the national Bike League. Pictured with the group of bike-happy campers are Fab’s Chris Gross and Bike Newport’s Gail Ruscetta during our combined camp weeks in the Summer of 2024.

From the Bike League announcement:
We are proudly recognizing 56 new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses. From corporate giants to local gems, these diverse establishments share a commitment to fostering a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.
“This round of new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses is a testament to the power of bicycles, not only as a workplace initiative but as a catalyst for broader societal change,” said Bill Nesper, executive director of the League of American Bicyclists. “Progress stems from collective effort, and we applaud these employers for their commitment to collaboration in driving transformative local action for better, safer bicycling.”
Bikes are good for business! Through the League’s Bicycle Friendly Business program, all types of businesses are recognized for their efforts to encourage a more welcoming atmosphere for bicycling employees, customers and the community.
