Child in a red shirt on a bike at the Newport Pump Track

Bike Newport Pump Track

Experience the Pump Track at the Big Blue Bike Barn!

Open from sunrise to sunset at 20 Sunset Blvd. in Newport’s North End!

This community pump track connects directly with beautiful hiking and biking trails in historic Miantonomi Park. Conveniently located near our Big Blue Bike Barn, the Pump Track is a place where kids (and adults!) play on their bikes, practice their bike skills, and have lots of bike fun – with a soft earthen cushion, and away from traffic!

What is a Pump Track?

A pump track is a specially designed, continuous circuit of rollers and berms designed to be ridden by “pumping” rather than pedaling or pushing. Riders use their body weight to move through the track, generating momentum and speed as they navigate the rollers and banked turns.

How do I Use the Pump Track?

The Pump Track is open to all every day, from sunrise to sunset. Head for the “Start Here” sign at the top of the hill. If you know you’re way around a Pump Track, drop in and have at it! If you’re a newbie, walk your bike in, acclimate to the smallest “rollers,” and graduate to larger peaks as you gain balance and confidence! The Pump Track is an awesome asset that belongs to us all – so please take care of it by not riding on it when muddy after a rain!

How do I Find the Pump Track?

Head to 20 Sunset Boulevard and look for our big blue containers, and you won’t miss it!

Special thanks to BankNewport, Champlin Foundation, Greenbridge Foundation, Ocean State Charities Trust, Cordsten Design Architects, Pariseault Builders and a whole set of community members for making this project possible.

Pump Track Volunteers

Be a part of the Pump Track community and help maintain this “labor of love”! Send us an email info@bikenewportri.org and let us know you’d like to join the volunteers who help keep the Pump Track ready for rolling! We’ll be in touch with plans – Thank you!
