Bike to Work Day in Newport: Friday May 20

Get ready for the first-ever BIKE TO WORK DAY in Newport!

Bike to Work Day is May 20, 2011

Please sign up for BikeNewport.me on this page (to the right of this post) to receive updates. Registration forms will be posted very soon.  In the meantime, please send your comments/questions to info@bikenewport.me.

The day’s events will include:

  • 6am to 10am: Light breakfast for bicycling participants on the grounds of the Quaker Meeting House, the green bordered by Farewell Street, Marlborough Street and Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd.
  • 4pm: An afternoon Community Bike Ride led by the East Bay Met School, starting from the Quaker Meeting House, circling the city and ending at King Park, and
  • 5pm-730pm: A fabulous evening BIKE FAIR at King Park including:-  Bicycle registration by the Newport Police Department– Bicycle maintenance demonstrations– “Share the Road” information and laws for bicyclists and motorists

    – Bicycle parade

    – Bicycle and bicyclist awards

    – Auction of original artist-interpreted helmets

    – Decorate your helmet or basket (bring your own or buy one on site)

    – Local retail vendors

    – Great music by our own Rogers HS talent

    – Announcements of new bicycle initiatives in Newport
