Bike to the Newport Black History Walking Tours

June 24, 2026

Join the movement and enjoy the ride while helping reduce traffic congestion! Read on for routes, maps, Park & Bike locations, and more.

Newport Black History Walking Tours

The Rhode Island Slave History Medallions is proud to partner with Bike Newport and the “Get There By Bike” initiative to provide maps, routes, and information for the Newport Black History Walking Tours. Leave your car outside of Newport, skip the parking hassles, and bike to the starting location of the Newport Black History Walking Tours, located near the Pilot House at Bowen’s Wharf. By doing so, you are decreasing traffic congestion, carbon emissions, and contributing to a more sustainable, healthy community.

Tours are offered every Saturday and Sunday until October 23rd, from 10am-11:15am. Bike parking for the Newport Black History Walking Tours can be found at Bowen’s Wharf on America’s Cup Boulevard or on the southside of Seamen’s Church Institute! There are additional bike racks across the street at Queen Ann’s Square.

Park & Bike

Coming from out of town? No problem. You can park and leave your car anywhere in Newport where long-term parking is permitted (be sure to check signs for restrictions), or you can head straight to Newport’s designated Park & Bike lots. See the routes below!

Park and Ride to Bowen’s Wharf – 1.2 miles ~ 5 minutes

YMCA to Bowen’s Wharf – 2.6 miles ~ 10 minutes

Helpful Tips for biking to the Newport Black History Walking Tours

  • Bring LIGHTS, a LOCK, and a HELMET.
  • Ride carefully, follow rules of the road, pay extra attention to motorists, and give yourself time to get there safely.
  • Newport is known for its history and beauty – less so for the condition of the roads. Watch for pot holes and ruts!

About Bike Newport

Supporting Bike Newport is supporting more and better biking in Newport and beyond. Our mission is to make it possible for more people to bike more often, by ensuring that biking is safe, inviting and an easy choice for both transportation and recreation. When we’re not busy bringing bike lanes, Park & Bike, bike routes, bike maps, and bike parking to major destinations – we’re busy teaching bike education in the schools and community, building bike culture, and fighting the good fight to make it possible for more people to choose biking! We’re continuously working to improve and encourage biking for everyone in Rhode Island and beyond – Thanks for being part of the solution!
