Bike to Work Day 2012: sensational!

Bike to Work Day 2012 was a big success.

125 commuters stopped by for breakfast

300+ people came to the all-day Bike Fair

45 people participated in historic bike tours

70 people rode the six-mile city loop

40 cyclists gained free admission to The Breakers

1 very happy fair-goer won a brand new Raleigh road bike

8 city leaders spoke about the benefits of Bicycle-Friendliness at the press conference

including: Evan Smith (CEO, Discover Newport), Justin McLaughlin (Vice Chair, Newport City Council), Jane Howington (Newport City Manager), Jody Sullivan (Executive Director, Newport/Bristol Chamber of Commerce), Trudy Coxe (Exec Director & CEO, Preservation Society of Newport County), Kathleen Connell (Exec Director, AARP-RI and former Secretary of State), Hon. Peter Martin (RI State Representative), and Lt. William Fitzgerald (Director of Newport Community Policing Program)

1065 B2WD participant miles ridden in town (that we know of!)

10,000 new 2012 edition Newport Bicycle Maps delivered for distribution

3.25 miles of bike route signs and sharrows to be marked in time for America’s Cup, check it out.

1 brand new fabulous Bike Newport logo launched !

3 sponsors, 28 businesses, 5 artists, 4 schools, 27 organizations, 8 city and state offices and 20+ volunteers
