Elliot’s Ride for Everyone, May 21, 2022, was a day of delight for all who participated. – people of all ages from near and far rolled and strolled for two hours on four miles of Newport’s scenic ocean coastline. Rocky shores, majestic residences, coves, lagoons, and salt marshes, herons and ospreys – and lots and lots (and lots) of people on bikes. With no cars on the road, it was free, it was fun, it was safe, concerns were low, and the joy was palpable. Bikes, trikes, tandems, recumbents, wheelchairs, push scooters, roller skates, skateboards, puppies on leashes and in backpacks – just no cars!
We estimate that there were 500 participants … but it’s hard to be certain as everyone headed right for the road to make the most of a few hours of worry-free own-the-road fun! With lots of loaner bikes on hand, and an assortment of adaptive bikes brought by our friends from Bike-On, it was truly Elliot’s Ride for Everyone!
Watch our video recap. You may see yourself and your friends if you were there. And you’ll see why you want to be there next time if you missed it. Note – we didn’t say “next year”. That’s because we hope to find ways and places to create more Open Road experiences!
As we note at the end of the video: “Open Roads demonstrate what is possible when people on bikes are separated from cars. Learn more and support more, better, and safer biking for everyone.”
Please sign up for our newsletter on our home page, and we’ll keep you informed about infrastructure progress.
