The holiday season is about giving, joy, and the simple things that make us smile—like the joy of riding your very own bike!
Each year, Bike Newport collects, lovingly restores, and donates more than 100 bikes for community kids – and distributes them on one special fun-filled day. The Holiday Bike Giveaway takes place in early December in partnership with Newport Public Schools. (Catch a glimpse of that special day HERE or view it below ❤️)
Every child’s bike that rolls IN through our door as a donation has a story — some were recently outgrown, others were gathering dust in a garage, all had prior love and life with a little one. And every bike that rolls OUT for the Holiday Bike Giveaway will find a new life with a new and happy owner!
The bikes are prepared for their next human by Bike Newport’s awesome staff and volunteers.
Volunteers of all ages – from enthusiastic youngsters to dedicated teens, seasoned bike geeks, and every stripe of supporters – gather in the Community Bike Garage for evenings of wrenching, laughter, and holiday spirit.

One recent evening, a dozen bike-happy volunteers showed up for duty and conviviality. Mat Guertin, our Bike Garage Manager, guided repairs and finishing touches assisted by Gail Ruscetta, Community Educator. It was community volunteerism at its finest — proof that a little elbow grease and a willing spirit gets it done and spreads the joy.
“Our generous volunteers filled the Community Garage with cheerful energy, their efforts resulting in another batch of bikes now ready to be adorned with festive red bows,” Gail said.

The completed bikes are headed to the Big Blue Bike Barn where they’ll await the Holiday Bike Giveaway and their new owners. For many children, it will be their first bike; for many, it will bring the freedom to ride to school or explore their neighborhood. The gift of a bicycle is the gift of independence, confidence, and pure fun.
Be part of the fun! Together, we’re giving kids the gift of joy, freedom, and the wind in their hair!
