When We Ride, Community Thrives
Across Aquidneck Island, something powerful is happening. More people are choosing to walk and bike, and more communities are embracing the benefits streets designed for people bring. Every day, we get closer to being that place where everyone – people biking, walking, driving, and using transit – benefits from streets designed for people.
We’re creating a movement for a healthier, safer, more vibrant community.
When more people can ride and walk safely, our streets calm down, our air gets cleaner, kids grow more confident, local shops see more foot traffic, and our whole community feels more connected and alive. Visitors get a more personal experience, neighbors move more freely, and our home becomes a place where everyone can thrive!
This momentum is powered by people who believe in what’s possible. You can be a part of the movement.
Your donation to Bike Newport fuels a chain reaction of good outcomes. Help keep that momentum rolling – support Bike Newport today.

Improving Safety and Building Confidence

Kids across Aquidneck Island are learning how to ride with confidence and independence. We’re providing bike safety education for all 3rd and 5th graders in Newport, while growing our programs in Middletown and Portsmouth. Our Summer Bike Camp provides kids with learning and adventures across the island. Our program Ciclistas welcomes new multi-language learners with bikes, safety gear, skills and friendship.
For adults and teens, we’re supporting the development of a clear e-bike policy as well as offering e-bike education so that everyone – cyclists and pedestrians– feels comfortable and confident on the road.
And, open street events like Elliot’s Ride and the Sakonnet Coastal Bike & Stroll give people of all ages a chance to feel the joy and freedom of car-free streets.
Supporting the Local Economy and Reducing Traffic

The businesses that join our “Get There By Bike” program help reduce traffic and parking stress by encouraging their customers to arrive by bike, with clear signage and easy-to-use bike parking waiting for them.
Supporting Community Progress

We work to make it safer and easier for people to choose biking. We’re expanding the Aquidneck Island bike network, including the new shared use path. Our partnership with the Newport Police Department is resulting in demonstration bike lanes, bike and e-bike safety campaigns, and updated ordinances that make biking safer and easier. And, at the Community Bike Garage sponsored by People’s Credit Union, volunteers refurbish donated bicycles and distribute them in the community, while teaching essential repair skills to kids, teens, and adults.
Your Support Moves Us All Forward
In the first 10 months of 2025, we distributed 401 bikes, welcomed 1,231 visits to the Community Bike Garage, taught 938 students in school programs, supported 2,090 riders to the Folk Festival via the bike lane, and trained 290 people in free e-bike classes – all while working tirelessly to advance improved roads, routes, practices and policies at the local, state, and national level.
This movement is not a moment — this movement is momentum.
When you support Bike Newport, you’re not just helping people ride bikes.
You’re helping shape a future where transportation is multimodal, streets are welcoming, and every person has access to safe and healthy mobility.
