Midtown Oyster Bar

EVERY MARCH, while frozen air leads to dreams of warm oceanside rides, Bike Newport throws a winter bike party to celebrate cycling in Newport and raise funds for a new and exciting initiative. With the help of wonderful community partners and dedicated volunteers, Bike Newport Night is a fun-filled evening of great food, live entertainment, raffles, indoor bike racing, and a super silent auction – all in the name of more and better biking!

THIS YEAR’S PARTY is on Wednesday, March 21st from 6:00-9:00pm

Once again hosted by our friends at Midtown Oyster Bar. This year, tickets can be purchased in advance – hooray! – avoid the line and get your tickets here. The night will feature live music by the Slackwater String Band and Los Duderinos, supported by Common Fence Music! The GRAND PRIZE raffle winner will take home a brand new bicycle from Benelly Bike Works!

The 2018 theme is: The Big Blue Bike Barn!

All proceeds will help us build the Big Blue Bike Barn. Remember the Bikes and Gardens video? Check out the dream here.

We’ve got an incredible new location for the Bike Barn on the north side of Miantonomi Park thanks to the generous partnership of the Newport Housing Authority. There will be direct path connections into the park thanks to the City of Newport and Aquidneck Land Trust. We’re already planning exciting new programs with the Newport County YMCA and Boys and Girls Club. Come to Bike Newport Night to see the sketches, pitch in for the funding, and sign up to help raise the Bike Barn this spring!

HUGE thanks to all of our fellow dreamers and doers. The kids are super excited about this amazing new facility and all the program that goes with it.

Each Bike Newport Night, we have a brand new bicycle as the grand raffle prize. Everybody who attends the party is eligible to win, although buying more raffle tickets certainly increases your odds! THANKS TO BENELLY BIKE WORKS for this year’s Grand Prize Bike, a Biria 700c Diamond 8 Speed CitiBike.

In 2017, Bike Newport Night:Community Bike Projects. All funds raised supported our Community Bike Projects – where we reclaim abandoned and discarded bikes, which are then repaired or harvested for useable parts with the help of our volunteers. Anyone can come in and tap into shared knowledge, tools, and used parts to repair or build their bikes. Everyone can gain from biking – it’s an affordable, healthy and fun way to get around town. Lots of participants keep coming back for more, and to share their new knowledge with others. Bike Newport’s Community Bike Projects help every kind of rider and every kind of ride, so we can help put more people on bikes in Newport.

In 2016, Bike Newport Night: Spread the Ed All funds raised support much-needed bicycle and road safety education for cyclists – as well as motorists, and pedestrians. Working together with the city, police, schools and businesses,Bike Newport’s trainings and classes help ensure that all road users are as safe as possible. Newport is poised to become the first school district in RI to offer bicycle skills and safety curriculum in our public schools K-12.

In 2015, Bike Newport Night: The First Mile funded advocacy efforts for the “first mile” of protected multi-use path in Newport – to provide healthful and safe connectivity from  Newport’s center to the North End – providing transportation alternatives, biking, and walking for Newport residents and visitors, contributing to improved quality of life and place.

Half of the high capacity racks used to park more than 500 of the 1200 daily bicycles at Folk Fest were purchased with funds raised at Bike Newport Night 2014. Thank you!

In 2014, Bike Newport Night: RACK ‘EM UP! funded the purchase of high capacity bike racks used to provide bike parking at outdoor events citywide.

In 2013, Bike Newport Night funded Night Bright  – the purchase and distribution of night safety equipment for our bicycle-dependent workers.

In 2012, Bike Newport Night funded the training of our League Certified Instructors, the expert local cyclists who teach our FREE Smart Cycling workshops. (Want to schedule a class? Gather a group of 8+ and call us at (401) 619-4900 or email us).
