Night Bright is an initiative to distribute night safety equipment to Newport’s lower-income bicycle-dependent cyclists. Successful fundraising efforts from our annual Bike Newport Night fundraiser as well as grants from the Rhode Island Department of Transportation Highway Safety Program and Newport Fed (now Savings Institute Bank & Trust) have made it possible to purchase up to 300 sets of safety gear. Each set includes front and rear lights, reflective vests, helmets, locks, bells, and also a printed card detailing biking rules and local ordinances in both English and Spanish. Distribution is currently underway, using locations where the target cyclists frequent – places of employment, markets and churches.
If you’d like to help us give and install equipment or want to suggest a distribution location, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
